Bio/CV:
Junius Brown is a PhD student specializing in the subfield of Comparative Politics, with a focus on China. His research relates to the politics of authoritarian regimes, and more specifically the nature of citizen-state interaction in regimes without competitive democratic elections. His current research examines the "Message Board for Leaders," or Lingdao Liuyanban, an online constituency service platform where citizens can post questions, complaints, and proposals and receive public replies by the relevant local government agency. He is interested both in the way individuals perform citizenship when interacting with government authorities, and the question of how high-capacity authoritarian governments incorporate citizen input into policymaking and policy implementation. Junius graduated from Macalester College in 2016 with a B.A. in Political Science and Sociology, and a minor in History. After pursuing a PhD in Sociology for two years at Cornell University, he transferred to UC Berkeley's Political Science department in 2018 to study Comparative Politics.
