Dave Cowan is Professor of Law and Policy at the University of Bristol and, from May 1st 2023, will be Journal of Law and Society Professor of Socio-Legal Studies at Cardiff University. He has worked for around 30 years in the broad areas of housing, homelessness, property, and government. His recent work has covered low-cost home ownership initiatives, precarious housing (canal boat life), and administrative justice. He is the editor of the Palgrave Socio-Legal Studies book series, and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Law and Society. His current research projects concern, first, the effects of financialisation (broadly conceived) on the provision by universities of accommodation to students; and, secondly, changing dynamics in regulatory enforcement practices in the private rented sector.
